More houses added to scheme

Plans to build hundreds of homes at Deepcar will go before Sheffield councillors again at a Town Hall meeting on Tuesday.

An application to build 399 houses on a former industrial and mining site east of the River Don and south of Station Road was lodged in 2014 - but now the number of homes has been increased to 413.

Officers have recommended approval, saying the site has an ‘earlier detailed consent for housing’ dating from 2012, which has ‘set a precedent’.

“The proposal will provide a high-quality living environment,” said officers in a report.

They added that the homes would make a ‘significant contribution to the housing supply of north Sheffield’.

The site was principally used by the R G Stein Brickworks, while the housing scheme has been drawn up by Bloor Homes. A new bridge is included in the designs.
