But head coach Richard Horne says there is more to come and that he is still waiting for the first complete performance of the season.

“I spoke to the players about putting in a performance and I don’t think we got that in the first half but we were better in the second in periods again,” said Horne.

“Again we were just a little bit scrappy in the first. We were making line breaks and at times we tried to pass when there were players in between.

“We didn’t play with any patience at times and I had asked them to do that and I spoke about that again at half time. We were forcing too many passes instead of trying to get them on the next play.

“As often happens when you are playing a struggling side everyone wants to try and get on the scoresheet and by doing that you can lose your shape as people start doing things they don’t usually do.

“It not only becomes frustrating for the coaching staff but also for the half-backs who are trying to organise the team.

“But we got the job done and again we kept our opponents scoreless which I was happy with.

“The fringe players came in and did a great job. They were under pressure to perform because we’ve got a big squad with a lot of good players.

“It’s difficult when you haven’t played for a few weeks but Liam Welham was solid and always does a great job for us when you need him to come in.

“I thought Bish (Aaron Jones-Bishop) showed a bit of pace and made some good yardage as well as making some good defensive reads.”

The game marked the 200th appearance for the club for former captain Kyle Kesik.

“Kezie wanted to put a marker down with it being his 200th game and despite having to play a lot of minutes he got through it well,” said Horne.

The game saw the return of half-back Jack Miller, injured in the first game of the season.

“I thought he looked a bit nervous at times in the first half and a little bit rusty and a few errors crept in but I thought he was a lot better in the second half,” said Horne.

“It was also good to see (second-rower) Charlie Martin back. He’s a solid player and he’s having a good season.”
