More than £7,000 raised for police injured in Gleadless Valley axe attack

More than £7,000 has been raised to support police officers injured in the axe attack on police in Gleadless Valley, Sheffield.

The JustGiving page was set up after PC Lisa Bates was injured during an incident in which five police officers were attacked.

Eyewitness Simon Ellis, aged 46, said the injured female officer’s fingers were left ‘hanging off’, her ankle was ‘smashed and disfigured’ and her head was bleeding as she was chased out of a block of flats by a ‘bodybuilder with an axe’.

Three others were hurt while trying to arrest the man in what was described as ‘the worst attack on a police officer in 30 years

The JustGiving page has now raised more than £7,195 for the injured South Yorkshire Police officers.
