Moor Market traders in Sheffield to move to Fargate for a month

Roadshow style mini-markets will be held on the first Thursday of each month, with a wide range of goods on sale to demonstrate the variety of traders working in the indoor Moor Market.

Coun Leigh Bramall, deputy leader of Sheffield Council, said: “We’re committed to supporting the growth of independent businesses in Sheffield.

“The Moor Market is home to many of our finest small businesses and we work with them to find opportunities where they can thrive.

“There’s so much on offer in the market, with unique gift stalls, top quality continental cuisine, fresh meat and fruit and vegetables, and so much more at great value for money, but many people don’t realise the diverse range of stalls we have.

“These roadshows will allow our traders to showcase their fantastic products and give our city centre shoppers the chance to try them, and encourage them to become regular customers at the main stall where they’ll get the full Moor Market experience.”

The scheme was trialled last year and stalls will trade on Fargate 9am – 5pm.

The £18 million Moor Market will be open as usual while the Fargate mini-market runs.

The Moor Market opened in November 2013 to replace Sheffield’s ageing Castle Market.

It had a troubled start with footfall lower than council bosses had hoped.

New traders have moved in over recent months and some are trying to re-brand the market as a premium food destination with products such as lobster for sale.
