Mooching through Vintage styles on Sheffield's Division Street
They say that fashion repeats '“ that trends of days gone by will be loved again '“ and at Mooch Vintage they definitely love yesterday's clothes.
The shop, on Division Street, offers their retro-loving customers a wide range of products spanning a number of eras – everything from 1940s dresses to 1990s sports tops.
Social media stylist Danielle Lanae said: “We like to think that there is something for everyone. All our items are hand-picked and unique. We also get quite a lot of crazy pieces in, which is great for those who like to be a little eccentric.”
Unlike other vintage shops, each staff member specialises in one era, meaning customers get detailed information for their clothes and style.
Danielle, who has a passion for 1980s power dressing, said: “The staff and customers often form friendships which we love. We want our customers to trust us and to walk into a friendly environment.”
The shop provides clothing for men and women of all ages, and the items come from all over the world.
Danielle said: “Half of our clothes are for women and half are for men, both in the shop and online.
“Our customers also range from students to those aged 60 plus, which is great to see as it’s nice to include everyone.
“We work with a large range of suppliers to get diversity in the range of pieces we offer. All our clothes are one- off and we do get some unique pieces.”
Owners Mark Lynam and Wayne Stocks are looking at branching out into making vintage clothes – particularly to suit the needs of curvier ladies.
Danielle said these customers are not always catered for using original pieces.
She said: “We work as hard as we can getting the size diversity up there.
“We do have a wide size scope, but the level is heavier on the size six to 12, particularly with some of the older clothing.
“We are talking of starting a vintage reproduction line, creating the 1950s and 1960s dresses but in plus sizes.
“We have a large following and often get requests asking for larger sizes. Sadly vintage dresses can often be teeny weeny, so we want to fix this.”
It is true that style never goes out of fashion – and that we each have our own definition of what style is.
Mooch Vintage provides a friendly environment to experiment with hundreds of clothes and decide exactly what you want your style to be.
In store there is currently an offer on for sportswear, which is two sweats for £30. Students also get 10 per cent off all products all year round.
