A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "Thank you so much to everyone who helped share the appeal to find George and who offered information to help the search."

Worried members of the public earlier formed search parties to try to find a missing Sheffield pensioner who has Alzheimer’s.

Residents used South Yorkshire Police Facebook page to inform officers of locations they have searched and to suggest other places to check.

The 84-year, who has a wife, had not been seen or heard from him since leaving his home in Ecclesfield at 4pm on Tuesday to visit a nearby park.

The Star would like to thank all those who shared the appeal.
