Minute's silence after death of Doncaster councillor

Colleagues observed a minute's silence following the death of a Doncaster councillor.

Doncaster Councillor Alan Jones died on Tuesday at the age of 67.

Labour Councillor Jones, husband of Mayor Ros Jones, served the ward of Norton and Askern from 2011.

An announcement about his death was made at today’s Audit Committee meeting.

The chair of the Audit committee, Austen White, who also serves the Norton and Askern ward said: “I have to start with some sad news that one of our members Alan Jones passed away yesterday.

“We shall miss him.

“This is a loss to the council and to the Askern ward.”

Councillors at the meeting then stood for a minute’s silence as a mark of respect, at the chair’s request.

As well as his ward duties Councillor Jones was also a valued member of the Audit Committee, Audit Hearings Sub-Committee, Planning Committee and also sat on the external Police and Crime Panel.

Alan Jones had served as a member of Doncaster Council since being elected in 2011.
