Midfielder in the frame for Sheffield Wednesday return against Sunderland

George Boyd will come back into the reckoning for Sheffield Wednesday's trip to Sunderland after being left out of the Good Friday victory over Preston.

Jos Luhukay admitted there was no injury problem concerning Boyd, but the boss merely chose other players - something he has largely been unable to do since he took over, due to the injury problems in the squad.

Sam Hutchinson and Barry Bannan are available and while Boyd had been playing in the left wing back role, Luhukay had pointed to Preston’s threat from wide areas in the build-up to Friday’s match and went with a more defensively-minded player in Morgan Fox for that role from the start.

Hutchinson came off at half time in that game and Luhukay was unsure whether Bannan would be able to start two games in a row having just returned from injury, meaning Boyd is in the frame again on Monday.

“George had the last two months played almost every game and we had to make a decision on the team,” said Luhukay.

“We decided on this 18 players but I said every game can be a different situation for or own plan but also the opponent and what we need.

“We didn’t have the options before but now we have.

“I have three or four questions for Monday (over selection) and every player has the chance to be in the first XI.”

Boyd has made 15 appearances for Wednesday under Luhukay, since returning from a shoulder injury, just before the new boss took charge in January.

Jack Hunt limped off against Preston and would appear unlikely to make the trip to Sunderland.
