Micro chip your pets to avoid a fine under new law

Dog owners who have not micro chipped their pet face a fine of up to £500 when a new law comes into effect this Spring.

To help local pet owners meet the April 6 deadline, the RSPCA South Yorkshire Animal Centre at Bawtry is now offering while-you-wait micro chipping with no appointment needed.

The new law aims to reduce the 100,000 dogs lost or abandoned each year in England. Apart from untold suffering to the animals, it has been revealed the rescue and rehoming of these animals costs charities and taxpayers nearly £60 million every year.

Micro chipping vastly increases the chances of reuniting lost pets with their owners. The cost of the chip and registering online at the RSPCA South Yorkshire Animal Centre is £12, and the offer applies to dogs, cats and rabbits.
