Two men trapped by smoke in a house fire were rescued in the early hours of the morning.

The residents could not find their way out of the property on Brinsworth Grange, Brinsworth, because of heavy smoke at around 2.30am on Friday.

They were given advice by control room staff and went into a bedroom until fire crews from Darnall and Rotherham arrived to put out the fire and lead the pair to safety.

The two men, thought to be aged in their twenties, were both suffering from slight smoke inhalation and were treated by paramedics.

An investigation into the cause of the fire - which was near the front door of the property - is taking place.
