Two men arrested over an attack in Barnsley which left a man fighting for life have been re-arrested.

They were arrested on suspicion of assault after a 69-year-old man was found with severe head in injuries in Dobie Street, Worsbrough Common, at around 7am on Sunday, October 27.

The pensioner remained in hospital in a critical condition yesterday.

The two suspects, aged 26 and 30, were re-arrested yesterday on suspicion of attempted murder.

A 48-year-old woman from Barnsley was also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Murphy said: “I am interested in speaking to anyone who has information about this incident, particularly if they saw anything suspicious in the early hours of Sunday morning in or around the Dobie Street area.”

Anyone with information should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 and quote incident number 337 of October 27.
