Men and woman from Sheffield and Rotherham arrested over rape and indecent assault of teenage girls

Five men and one woman from Sheffield and Rotherham have been arrested over the rape and indecent assault of two teenage girls.

The suspects were arrested as part of Operation Stovewood, run by the National Crime Agency, which is looking into allegations of child sexual exploitation in Rotherham between 1997 and 2013.

The men, aged between 30 and 42 and from Sheffield and Rotherham, were arrested on suspicion of raping and indecently assaulting two girls under the age of 16 between 2002 and 2003.

The woman, aged 53 and from Rotherham, was arrested on suspicion of allowing her premises to be used for sexual intercourse involving minors during the same time period.

A 39-year-old woman from Rotherham and a 34-year-old man from Sheffield were voluntarily interviewed under caution.

All the suspects have been released under investigation for three weeks while enquiries continue.
