Memorial for much-loved Sheffield mum to raise money for 'unbelievable' hospice staff

Kate Dunn, who lived in Hillsborough with husband Gavin and their two young sons, died in January aged 35 of ovarian cancer.

Her death prompted a flood of tributes to the 'fun-loving' office manager, who friends and family said brought happiness and laughter wherever she went.

They are set to gather this summer to celebrate her tragically short life in the way she would have wanted - by throwing a big party.

Live bands and a DJ have been lined up to play at Malin Bridge Inn, in Malin Bridge, where Kate was a regular, this June.

There will be a raffle and auction at the event on Sunday, June 25, from 1pm,where those who knew her have volunteered to have their heads shaved and chests waxed in the name of charity.

All the money raised on the day will go to St Luke's Hospice, which Kate's family has praised for the care it lavished on her during her final weeks.

Kate's father John Andrews said: "Kate never actually attended the hospice but the care she received from its nurses, doctors and other staff at home was second to none.

"Everyone who came was unbelievable. They were all so nice, genuine and caring, and Kate would be be over the moon to know we're raising money in her memory for such a good cause."

John said he had been overwhelmed by the number of people offering to give their time or money for the memorial party.

The bands Vegas Child and Little Comets have volunteered to play, and a host of businesses have stumped up prizes, from free meals and spa days to signed football shirts from Sheffield Wednesday and the Blades.

But Kate's family are still appealing for more lots for the charity auction and for other bands willing to play.

John said: "It's very humbling and touching the amount of offers we have had, but it would be lovely to get even more donations so we can raise as much as possible for St Luke's in Kate's memory."
