Mediation advice for couples splitting-up

Hallam Mediation is to host a week of drop-in sessions to help South Yorkshire families find out more about dispute resolution and the funding options available.

The division of Taylor Emmet law firm is marking Family Dispute Resolution Week next week with a programme of free information sessions for people considering divorce or separation.

Specialist mediators will be meeting members of the public at the firm’s Sheffield, Rotherham and Barnsley branches to discuss the process, its suitability and the availability of legal aid, which has been cut back this year.

The no-obligation open days form part of local efforts to raise awareness of Family Dispute Resolution Week and promote the benefits of mediation and collaboration as alternatives to court proceedings.

Mediator Fay Bunting will be hosting the Sheffield surgeries.

She said: “Two-thirds of mediation cases are resolved without going to court, yet many separating couples are still unsure what the process involves.”

The sessions will take place at Hallam Mediation’s Sheffield premises on Arundel Gate from 9am to 1pm both next Wednesday and Friday.

The firm’s branch on Percy Street, Rotherham, will be open to the public from 10am to 1pm on Monday and Thursday, while Barnsley residents can visit The Core, County Way, from 10am to 1pm on Tuesday.

For more information about the drop-in sessions, or to make an appointment with a mediator, telephone (0114) 218 4255, visit Taylor&Emmet’s website,, or follow the firm on Twitter @tayloremmet.
