Match report: Sheffield Sharks 85 Worcester Wolves 75

A strong start saw the Sharks secure a sixth successive win in their heavyweight BBL Championship clash with Worcester at the EIS.

Jerrold Brooks netted 21 points, 11 assists and six rebounds with Mike Tuck adding 22 points of his own as Sheffield avenged their November defeat to the Wolves.

Three pointers from George Brownell and Tuck gave the Sharks a 14-3 lead midway through the first quarter.

Both sides traded baskets for the remainder of the period as it ended 27-16 in the hosts’ favour.

Sheffield’s accuracy evaded them in the second quarter, allowing Worcester to nail a quick 12 points to tie the game 36-36 with less than a minute left of the half.

But the Sharks managed two steals and seven points in the final 30 seconds, giving them the momentum and a 43-36 lead at half time.

Despite racing into a 50-38 lead at the start of the third, the Sharks again failed to maintain their momentum.

And 11 unanswered points from the Wolves saw the game tied up at 54-54.

A vital Colin Sing three-pointer followed however as the third period finished with Sharks up 62-56.

The two sides exchanged baskets at the start of the fourth before Brooks began to take control of the the game as he so often does.

Six consecutive points from Sheffield’s maestro gave Sharks a 74-63 lead deep into the final period.

Orlan Jackman then caught fire for Worcester, hitting two threes in rapid succession to secure himself a double-double and reduce the gap to 80-75 with a minute left.

But it was the brilliant Brooks who closed the game out, helping secure a statement win for Sheffield.

Atiba Lyons’ side will go for a seventh straight win against Leeds Force at the EIS next Saturday.
