The Brewers still haven't scored a goal against the Reds in four meetings between the two sides.

The Reds were undoubtedly the better side in the first half at the Pirelli Stadium.

However, they couldn't find a breakthrough.

Adam Armstrong went close inside the opening three minutes when curling a shot narrowly wide.

Soon after, Marley Watkins' shot was parried by Brewers' 'keeper Jon McLaughlin, with Armstrong seeing his effort from the rebound blocked.

The industrious Sam Morsy twice threatened as the Reds continued to press, while at the other end, former Red Chris O'Grady forced 'keeper Adam Davies into a smart double stop.

Ryan Kent fizzed a shot inches past the post shortly before the interval.

The hosts came mighty close in the opening minutes of the second period when Davies superbly kept out O'Grady's crisp half-volley.

A minute later Brewers' sub Tom Flanagan somehow scooped a shot over the top when it looked far easier to score.

The Reds finally eased the pressure with returning skipper Conor Hourihane crashing a volley wide as the Irish ace charged in to meet James Bree's cross.

Davies produced a fine stop to keep out Ben Turner's header in the latter stages.
