Sheffield Heeley MP Louise Haigh said she would table an early day motion following Danny’s victory last night (Sunday, April 10).

The motion will say: “That this House congratulates Mr Danny Willett on his remarkable victory at the US Masters in Augusta; commends Mr Willett for his steely determination under pressure; notes that he is the first Sheffielder, the second Englishman and only the fourth Briton to win the US Masters; welcomes this golden age for Sheffield sport and notes that in Jamie Vardy, Danny Willett and Joe Root, Sheffielders are dominating UK sport; and recognises that their success will be an inspiration for people across Yorkshire and the UK.”

Colin Ross, leader of the Liberal Democrat group on Sheffield Council, said: “Danny Willet has done Sheffield proud and his success on the world’s stage last night shows Sheffield at its best.
