A huge search and rescue operation is continuing this afternoon for a man who disappeared after going swimming in a South Yorkshire reservoir.

A 38-year-old man from Fartown, Huddersfield, was camping close to Snailsden reservoir, near Dunford Bridge, last night when he went swimming and failed to return.

The alarm was raised by his friend.

A police helicopter, underwater search teams and police dogs are all being used to try and locate the man.

The search is being carried out by South Yorkshire Police in conjunction with West Yorkshire Police and South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue.

Firefighters are urging people to stay out of open water in Sunday’s sunshine.

Anyone with any information as to the man’s welfare should call South Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 1192 of Saturday 31 May.
