A special Mass to mark the 40th anniversary of St Paul’s Roman Catholic Church in Goodison Boulevard, Cantley, was held on Sunday.

Afterwards the celebrations continued in the Church Hall with a ‘bring and share’ lunch provided by the parishioners, and Father Bernard O’Brien ceremonially cut the cake, which had been donated by parishioner Kathleen Hickey.

The cake was decorated with a photograph of the church and the Latin word for rejoice, Jubilate, and the script ‘40 Years of Devotion’.

It was the second big anniversary celebrated by the Cantley parish this year – in July, there was a joint celebration, attended by the Bishop of Hallam, held to mark the 50-year jubilee since the ordination of both Father O’Brien and Father Pat Murphy.
