A masquerade ball is to be held in Sheffield to raise money for the city’s cancer hospital.

Friends Melita Hawksworth, Michelle Loy and Katherine Stagg organised the event after Melita’s mum, Linda, was diagnosed with cancer and treated in Sheffield.

Money raised by at the ball, which is taking place at the Genting Club in Sheffield, will be donated to Weston Park Hospital’s Cancer Charity.

Melita’s mum was initially diagnosed with breast cancer 16 years ago and successfully treated at Weston Park Hospital.

Eight years later the cancer returned, this time in her bones, and in December 2012 it spread to her liver.

Melita, from Intake, said: “Throughout my mum’s treatment, we have been lucky to have such a centre of excellence right on our doorstep.

“Without this facility my mum wouldn’t have had access to the latest treatments and care options so close to home.

“The Masquerade Ball is a way of raising awareness of the charity whilst saying a huge thank you to the hospital for caring for my mum over the years.
