TWO masked thugs threatened Sheffield shop workers with a crowbar before snatching safe keys and making off with cash.

Stunned staff in the Co-op store on Hutcliffe Wood Road had just opened up when they were attacked at 7am on Saturday.

The raiders threatened staff working in the store and then demanded the keys to the safe, before escaping with cash.

A Co-op spokesman said they were unhurt but were badly shaken.

He added: “CCTV footage has been passed to the police, who are investigating.

“As with any incident such as this, we would appeal for anyone with information to come forward.”

A resident, who asked not to be named, claimed staff had been worried after a Co-op in Dore had been raided two weeks earlier.

Police are also investigating similar armed raids in Treeton, Meersbrook and Norton Lees.

A Costcutter store on Valley Road, Meersbrook, was raided by masked men who threatened a worker at 7.25am on January 13.

They snatched the float from the till before fleeing with cigarettes.

And later that day an off-licence on Lees Hall Avenue was also targeted.
