Masked men raid Sheffield bookmakers

POLICE are hunting a gang of armed robbers who escaped with £3,000 from a Sheffield bookmakers.

The trio struck at Corbetts Bookmakers, Stannington Road, Stannington where they demanded cash.

Police said they were brandishing weapons and were ‘aggressive’ towards the member of staff working there at the time of the raid.

They stormed into the shop at 9.20pm on Friday, and fled in a stolen silver Ford Focus ST, with the number plate YT56 ZHA.

All three men were dressed in dark clothing and wore balaclavas.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “Three men armed with weapons entered the premises and approached the male staff member in an aggressive manner and made demands for money, stealing £3,000 from the store.

“No one was hurt during the incident but the staff member was left very shaken by his ordeal.

She added: “There was one customer in the bookmakers at the time of the incident.

“Detectives want to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time who believes they witnessed the incident and also the location of the vehicle.”

Witnesses or anyone with information about the raid should call South Yorkshire Police on 101.
