Marvellous Marvin's big cycle challenge

Former football foes, Dane Whitehouse who played for Sheffield United) and ex-Wednesday player Jon Newsome will join Marvin Henshaw, of Fulwood, on September 18 for the second Steel City Cycle Challenge, aiming to raise £10,000 for Weston Park Cancer Charity.

Marvin, aged 45, will cycle with his fellow riders from Sheffield to Cleethorpes.

After the success of the first Steel City Cycle Challenge last year, which raised more than £15,000 for the cancer charity, the rivals are hoping that, with the help of both United and Wednesday fans, they will once again raise funds to support those receiving vital treatment at Weston Park.

Weston Park Cancer Charity is the only dedicated charity for the hospital and exists to support the world-class cancer research and to improve the treatment and care for people living with cancer.

Father of three Marvin said: “When I was 23 years old I was diagnosed with testicular cancer, which was a very challenging period in my life.

“During that difficult period I had fantastic support from my friends and family. My cousins, Craig and Andrew Hall, inspired me to think about travelling the world when I got better and this gave me the motivation to get well. Fortunately I did make a full recovery so I spent the next two years travelling.”
