Doncaster markets are in the running for this year’s National Market of the Year Award.
The winner will be announced this week at an event in Birmingham.
The awards - launched in 2005 and promoted by the National Association of British Markets Authorities - will be judged by a panel of retail market experts.
Doncaster’s town centre manager Roy Dean said: “Doncaster Markets are up against very stiff competition from markets across the country, but we have been commended in previous years.
“With many positive improvements at the markets now starting to bear fruit - including a greatly improved uptake of tenancies - I am hoping we stand a good chance.”
A programme of extensive improvements is currently underway to help rejuvenate this area of the town centre.
The next few weeks will see outdoor seating refurbished, decorative work to spruce up the inside and outside of the Food Hall, new ice making equipment at Fish Market - a major revamp of the market top area opposite the Red Lion.
