Mark in the running for Mental Health award

Mark Thorpe, a community recovery worker and occupational therapy volunteer for Sheffield Health and Social care, has been shortlisted in the Mental Health Worker of the Year category after being nominated for his sustained dedication and commitment to providing meaningful activities for service users both on the wards and in the community. Mark also volunteers his time to work with service users on the in-patient wards.

Mark said: “I am so happy to have been nominated for the award, never mind to have been shortlisted as a finalist. I work with a great team on the wards and in the community who have always allowed me to be myself, and both roles give me an opportunity to work with service users to help them find a meaningful and positive path to recovery.

“To be nominated is a great honour and I am not only representing the great teams I work for but also the dedication and support of many Trust staff who have got me to where I am today and would like to thank each and everyone of them who have helped me along the way. In particular I would like to thank my supervisor Sue Robinson, my supervisor/mentor on the in-patient wards, and Will Mayor, my former supervisor in the Community Recovery Services. I’m really pleased to have been selected as a finalist. I both work and volunteer for the Trust and to have my work recognised like this is just fantastic.”

The results will be announced on December 5.
