Organisers of Sheffield’s annual Half Marathon have issued a rallying call to runners.

Volunteers are urging people to sign up for the event in a bid to top their fundraising total.

This year’s race raised more than £110,000 for the event’s 10 official charities – but it is hoped runners will smash that target again in 2014.

With the Sheffield Half Marathon set to start and finish from Don Valley Bowl for the first time when it takes place on Sunday, April 6, organisers are keen to get as many entries in as possible before the new year.

Margaret Lilley, Sheffield Half Marathon committee chairman, said: “The 2013 race was incredibly successful. We want to top this for 2014 and make it a great first year at our new home.

“We are encouraging more people than ever to sign up for this year’s race as we have 8,000 spaces available and we want to make a real impact for our first year at Don Valley Bowl.

“We are already excited about the 2014 event and are encouraging people of all ages and abilities to sign up and help make it bigger and better than ever.”
