Man steals cash from 99-year-old woman's home after pretending he needed to carry out repairs

On Friday June 10, a man claiming to be carrying out some repairs at the woman’s home in Mundella Place, Norton, visited the house.

The following day, between 11.30am and 12pm, a second man came to the house claiming that he had come to fix a light.

He then proceeded to distract the victim, before stealing a quantity of cash from the house.

The man who visited the house on Friday is described as in his 40s, between 5ft 8ins – 5ft 10ins, with short dark hair and facial stubble. He is believed to have been wearing shiny black shoes with white heels, blue jeans and a dark top. The man was also carrying a white A3 notepad.

The man believed to have stolen the money from the house is described as white, clean-shaven, in his 40s, of a large build and was carrying a large haversack type bag.

Detective sergeant Christina Wilson, the investigating officer, said: “I would like to appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have seen either man leaving the house, to contact police.

“I would also like to ask people to be vigilant when opening the door to strangers. Always ask to see someone’s identification as well, to ensure they are from an official organisation.

“This was a highly traumatic incident for the woman and anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting incident number 463 of 11 June 2016.”
