Man slapped his partner after a row

A man who slapped his partner after a row is due to be sentenced.

Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Tuesday, March 8, how Craig Lee Brewer, 19, of South Street North, Chesterfield, hit his partner on January 11 after a row.

Prosecuting solicitor Peter Bettany said it is a domestic violence matter at South Street North and the defendant’s partner complained that he had slapped her to her head during an argument.

Brewer, who has previous convictions, pleaded guilty to assault.

Defence solicitor Felicity Coats highlighted that it was Brewer’s first offence as an adult and she requested the intervention of the probation service.

Magistrates adjourned the case until March 23 to consider a probation report before sentencing.
