Man runs five marathons in three days to thank Sheffield medics for saving his wife

Andrew Lockwood, aged 31, clocked up 130 miles in the 72-hour challenge for the Sheffield Hospitals Charity.

He ran 43 miles a day for the cash he raises to be donated to the haematology department at the city’s Royal Hallamshire Hospital, where his wife Jenny received treatment for cancer.

Jenny was offered a specialist support nurse, a private flat away from the hospital to stay in during her treatment to avoid her having to travel to and from Barnsley, and help with meals.

Andrew, from Monk Bretton, Barnsley, said: “I cannot explain how thankful we are for Sheffield Hospitals Charity.

“The amount they helped us cannot be put into words. From big things, to small, they made it all so much easier to deal with.

“The ambulatory care, specialist support and advice, the help with meals, the list goes on.

“The team up in haematology are exceptional. They are brilliant people who do great work for people going through the worst of times.

“ We will be forever grateful and as such I will keep doing ridiculous things to help to repay them and help others to get the same support,” Andrew said.

Andrew ran from Liverpool to Leeds, raising more than £1,200 for Sheffield Hospitals Charity.
