Man rescued from Sheffield building site after 'brick fell and hit him on the head'

A man was left needing urgent hospital treatment after being hit on the head by a falling brick yesterday afternoon.

The man, believed to be a worker, was hit by the object which fell from the building site on Rockingham Street.

Police and ambulance crews rushed to the scene at around 12pm while firefighters rescued the man, in his 50s, from the scaffolding.

He was taken to the Northern General Hospital with neck and shoulder pain but details of his condition are not yet known.

A Yorkshire Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called to Rockingham Street at 10.30am today to reports a brick had fallen on a worker.

"We sent two rapid response vehicles, an ambulance and a hazard area response team to the scene."

Station Manager Paul Heffernan, said: “Firefighters did a brilliant job working alongside their 999 partners to rescue the man, who needed bringing to safety in a careful and controlled way to ensure his safety.”
