TWO Sheffield men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was left fighting for his life following an attack in Barnsley town centre.
The men, both aged 22, were apprehended by police after two men were attacked - one of whom was seriously hurt.
The assault took place in Peel Street, close to the junction with Graham’s Orchard, at around 2.30am yesterday.
Police say a 19-year-old man from Conisbrough near Rotherham, and a 20-year-old man from Rawmarsh in Rotherham, were set upon by the occupants of a blue Audi A4 car and a white Vauxhall Combo van
The driver of the Audi is then believed to have started to drive off - and collided with the 20-year-old who became trapped under the vehicle.
Before police arrived a number of people lifted the car while others pulled the injured man from beneath it.
The man is believed to have suffered fractures to his pelvis and ribs and also sustained serious head injuries.
He is currently detained in Barnsley District General Hospital where his condition is described as ‘critical’.
The 19-year-old suffered facial injuries but did not require hospital treatment.
Police are appealing for witnesses to call 0114 220 2020 quoting incident number 182 of September 25, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
