Man left with serious injuries after being hit by a car in South Yorkshire

A man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after being hit by a car in Barnsley.

At around 10pm on Monday, April 11, a Renault Clio was travelling along the A628 Westway from the Alhambra roundabout towards Townend roundabout, when it was involved in a collision with a pedestrian, at the traffic light pedestrian crossing near to the junction with Wellington Street.

A 21-year-old man remains in a critical condition in hospital.

The driver of the Renault Clio, a 77-year-old man, was not injured during the collision.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the incident.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Officers investigating the matter are asking for anyone with information to come forward.

“Did you see what happened? Did you see the car or the pedestrian prior to the incident?”

Anyone with any information is being urged to call 101 quoting incident number 1137 of 11 April 2016.
