Man jailed for shoplifting and begging in South Yorkshire

A man has been jailed for shoplifting and begging in Doncaster town centre as part of a new police operation.

Dale White, aged 36, of Riviera Mount, Bentley, was sentenced to 21 weeks in prison and given a Criminal Behaviour Order for shoplifting, begging and breaching a dispersal order and a community protection notice.

White, who appeared at Doncaster Magistrates' Court, was charged after he was found to be in breach of dispersal and community protection notices issued by South Yorkshire Police as part of an operation to crackdown on anti-social behaviour in Doncaster town centre following complaints from shoppers and traders.

Inspector Lynne Lancaster said: “I am extremely pleased with the result we have been able to achieve and I would like to thank all of the officers, our partners at Doncaster Council and everyone else who has been involved in this case for all of their hard work.

“This result demonstrates the success of the initiative and highlights our commitment to listening to and working with the public to address community issues.
