A JEALOUS husband who attacked his pregnant wife after she confessed to kissing another man while he was in prison is back behind bars.

Leon Jacques had been granted early release from jail in March and wife Lisa said all was okay – until he was told she had been chatting with another man during his sentence.

Sarah Haslam, prosecuting, told Chesterfield magistrates it caused problems in their three-and-a-half year relationship, culminating in an assault when she returned home on July 19.

He dragged her into a bedroom by her hair, pinned her on the bed, squeezed her throat and poked her in the face, demanding she ‘tell the truth’ about how she got home that night.

The court heard another row blew up on July 31, and this time Jacques pinned her on a sofa with his forehead and pushed his thumb into her eye, saying: “It’s a good job you’re pregnant.”

But, Mrs Haslam told the court: “She intends to resume the relationship.”

Jacques, aged 23, of Bonsall Court, Newbold Road, Chesterfield, admitted both assaults and damaging the door. He was jailed for a total of six months.

“He was very remorseful and wanted to make amends to her. He has a record for dishonesty but he’s generally not a violent man,” said Bob Bashforth, defending.
