Karwan Hossin, aged 37, of Costock Avenue, Nottingham, came to the attention of police after a car registered in his name was detected travelling over the speed limit on a number of occasions on the M1 in South Yorkshire.

In an attempt to evade prosecution, Hossin falsely nominated a foreign driver. As part of a South Yorkshire Police operation, enquiries with HM immigration found that the foreign driver had actually been deported as a failed asylum seeker in 2011.

Barry Smith, Head of Safety Cameras and Ticket Processing, said: “The success of Operation Obstruct highlights the work of the Safety Camera Enquiry Team, which actively follows up cases of speeding.

“If people are found to have lied or given false information, court action will be taken against them. We prosecute speeding drivers for one simple reason – to save lives.

“Too many lives are cut tragically short on our roads due to speeding, and we will do all we can to protect drivers and pedestrians in South Yorkshire.”
