Man hunted over racial abuse hurled at South Yorkshire footballers
A man is wanted by South Yorkshire Police after racial abuse was hurled at footballers during a local derby.
Racial abuse was hurled at players when Rotherham United and Barnsley FC met at Oakwell football stadium, Barnsley, on Saturday, August 27.
Officers investigating the incident have released a photograph of a man they believe could hold vital information.
A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: "During the match, it is reported that individuals engaged in racially abusive behaviour towards players on the pitch.
"This caused distress to others at the match and the matter was referred to police for investigation in September.
"Despite extensive inquiries, the individuals involved have not been identified.
"Police believe the man pictured could hold information useful to their investigation and ask that anyone who recognises him gets in touch.
"Do you know this man? Were you at the match and can you help officers?"
