A man was seriously injured after he was attacked with a crutch in Chesterfield town centre.

Officers were called to Beetwell Street at 3.30pm yesterday following reports that a man had struck another man over his head with a crutch.

The 39-year-old victim remains in hospital in a serious condition.

A 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and remains in custody this morning.
