Man to go on trial in Doncaster murder case

A Doncaster man who has been accused of murder is set to face the start of his trial today.

Jason Thaxter, aged 39, of Ramsden Road, Hexthorpe, Doncaster, is accused of murdering 54-year-old Thomas Groome inside his home.

The incident is alleged to have taken place on or around New Year’s Day in 2010.

Thaxter is also accused of conspiracy to prevent the burial of the body of Mr Groome, from Doncaster, who worked as a car salesman.

Thaxter has already pleaded not guilty to both charges.

The not guilty plea was taken at an earlier hearing in front of a judge at Sheffield Crown Court.

Last night it was expected that a jury would be formally sworn in to hear the case today in the courts (Thursday).

Barrister Dafydd Enouch QC is representing the Crown on behalf of the prosecution.

Defending Thaxter in the case , will be Jason Bartfield QC.

The trial, which is expected to be heard at Sheffield Crown Court, is expected to last around four weeks.
