A man chased by police officers investigating the theft of a moped found him carrying a knife.

South Yorkshire Police said a man on a moped being freewheeled on a pavement along Station Road, Mosborough, fled when he spotted officers on patrol.

Officers started to chase him and spotted a second man running with him.

The second man was caught and was found to be carrying a lock knife.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "Officers were patrolling Station Road, Mosborough, when a moped was seen being freewheeled on the pavement.

"On seeing the police, the male riding the moped ran. Police gave chase and another male was also seen running with him.

"The second male was caught and arrested on suspicion of the theft of the moped. Unfortunately, after investigation the arrested male could not be charged with the theft. He was charged with possession of a bladed article found on him on arrest."
