A BARNSLEY man has been fined £65 and ordered to pay £85 court costs for verbally abusing a police officer.

Andrew Peach, aged 19, of Stanley Street, Cudworth, was sentenced by Barnsley magistrates after admitting using abusive language.

He was abusive to the officer while he was patrolling the Crown Avenue area of Cudworth, an area plagued by anti-social behaviour, the court heard.

Pc Colin Mackie, who witnessed the incident, said: “We will not tolerate this type of abusive behaviour.”
