A man died this morning after he lost control of his car and smashed into a Sheffield takeaway.
The 62-year-old is thought to have fallen ill at the wheel when he ploughed into the Plaza takeaway on Wulfric Road, Manor.
Residents reported hearing a loud bang when the incident occurred at about 7.20am near to the junction with Fairleigh.
Fran Stocks, of Haircutz on Wulfric Road, said: “The man next door heard a really loud bang and he thought it was joy riders at first.
“He went outside and he said he saw someone banging on the back windows saying, ‘Get me out.’
“It was all cordoned off by the time I got here and I had to park my car around the corner when I got to work this morning.”
A couple of men ran out from nearby buildings to help after the accident. It is understood there were two passengers in the car along with the driver.
Engineers came to the scene afterwards and made the takeaway building structurally secure. The car has been taken away.
Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to call South Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 302 of 1 March.
