Man in court over benefit fraud

Edwin Wood, 46, of Ashtree Close pleaded guilty to two separate charges.

The first was failing to notify a change of circumstances to the Department for Work and Pensions between November 29 2013 and March 17 2013 in that he had found employment.

The second was failing to notify North Lincolnshire Council Benefit Section about a change of circumstances.

The court ordered him to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work within the next 12 months, also to pay a victim surcharge of £60 and costs of £200.

A North Lincolnshire Council spokeswoman said: “The council works hard with the Department for Work and Pensions to combat fraud and has successfully prosecuted more than 20 people for fraudulently claiming benefits they are not entitled to.
