A 37-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after a stabbing in Chesterfied.

Derbyshire police were called to Sheffield Road in the Whittington Moor area at about 9.45pm on Thursday to reports of a stabbing.

A 26-year-old man was taken to hospital and his injuries were described as life-threatening. His condition is now thought to be stable.

The victim was sat in the passenger seat of a black Astra - parked in the disabled parking bays outside Asda opposite the Donkey Derby pub - when he was allegedly attacked through the window of the car.

A 37-year-old man has now been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is due to appear at court tomorrow, Derbyshire police CID said.
