A man has been charged over a Christmas Day raid in Sheffield which left another man dead.
Stephen Starkey, aged 61, was assaulted during a robbery at his home on Reney Crescent, Greenhill, and later died in hospital.
Police said the father-of-four, who was disabled after almost losing a leg in a motorbike accident, answered his door to a man who attacked him before stealing cash and a Sony PlayStation 3 games console.
Wayne Muirhead, aged 40, of Batemoor Road, Batemoor, has been charged with robbery over the incident and is due to appear at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court today.
He had been initially arrested on suspicion of murder.
A 37-year-old man, also arrested on suspicion of murder, has been bailed pending further inquiries.
A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “Mr Starkey was taken to hospital to be treated for injuries where he later died.
“A post mortem examination proved inconclusive and further tests are to be carried out.”
Mr Starkey was robbed two months earlier by a man who got away with £300 in cash.
And a year earlier he was assaulted during another burglary in which cash was also taken.
