Man charged after crutch 'attack' in Chesterfield

A man is due in court after allegedly attacking another man with a crutch in Chesterfield town centre.

Paul Walker, 27, of Broom Avenue, Pilsley, has been charged with possessing an offensive weapon in public, inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent and three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He is set to appear in Chesterfield magistrates' court later.

Police were called to Beetwell Street at 3.30pm on Monday following reports that a man had struck another man to the head with a crutch.

The 39-year-old who was allegedly hit was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

Witnesses or anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting incident number 384 of October 3.
