Railway police are appealing for information after a man was assaulted in front of children as he left Mexborough station.

The victim, a 27-year-old Mexborough man, was walking out of the station when he passed a group including two men, a woman, and two children outside.

Pc Saleh Ali said: “An altercation took place between one of the group and the victim, which resulted in the man being punched in the head several times.

The attack left him with cuts, marks, and bruising to his head, legs and body.”

The victim and the group are believed to have been on the same train from Doncaster. The attacker was white, aged 20 to 30, slim, with short ginger hair, 5ft 10ins and wearing a white top and blue jeans.

Pc Ali said: “This was an unprovoked attack. What is even more shocking is how the suspect subjected the man to such violence in front of two young children.”

The attack happened at 3.35pm on February 16.
