Man attacked in bar brawl in Barnsley

Detectives are investigating an attack in a Barnsley pub which landed a man in hospital.

The 55-year-old victim was with his wife and a group of friends in the Miners Rest in Palm Street, near Barnsley Hospital, when he was assaulted.

An unknown man approached the group and began being verbally abusive.

South Yorkshire Police said the victim was then punched and more people became involved, with the fight spilling out into the street, where the victim was punched again.

He suffered a dislocated finger, cuts and bruises in the attack at 7.30pm on Friday, January 15.

The pub landlady said: “We do not condone this type of behaviour and we are working with police to help identify those responsible.”
