Man arrested after crash in South Yorkshire leaves 24-year-old fighting for life

A man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving after a crash in South Yorkshire which left a 24-year-old fighting for his life.

A black Land Rover Freelander reportedly crashed into a tree after coming off the road in Rotherham, close to the border with Sheffield, during the early hours of this morning.

A 24-year-old, who was a passenger in the car, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and police said he remains in a critical condition this afternoon.

A 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving causing serious injury and has been released under investigation.

The car had reportedly travelling along Bawtry Road towards the junction with Centenary Way before crashing into the tree at about 12.45am.

Officers investigating the collision have appealed for any witnesses to call 101, quoting incident number 48 of July 21.
