Man armed with hammer smashed Sheffield police station windows

A man armed with a hammer smashed windows in a Sheffield police station last night, police chiefs have revealed.

The windows at the enquiry desk inside Snig Hill police station in Sheffield city centre were damaged, forcing the station to be closed to members of the public while repairs were carried out overnight.

It is due to re-open again this morning.

A man in his 50s was arrested and is being held on suspicion of causing criminal damage.
