Man airlifted after crash

THE M1 was closed in both directions between junctions 37 and 38 yesterday to allow the Yorkshire Air Ambulance to airlift to hospital a man injured in a crash.

Two vehicles collided on the southbound carriageway between Dodworth and Haigh at Barnsley at around 1.30pm.

One car, which contained four male passengers, ended up on its roof and two of the men were seriously injured.

One man was taken by air ambulance to the Northern General Hospital, while the other injured man was taken to Barnsley Hospital.

The motorway reopened to all traffic at 2pm.
